DIY CBD Face Mask and Body Scrub

DIY CBD Face Mask and Body Scrub

After the disaster that was 2020, we could all do a little TLC. We don’t know about you, but after weeks of junk food and little social interaction, our skin is a little worse for wear. Admittedly, self-care can be hard to keep up with while juggling work from home, family life, and physical and mental health complications, and getting a minute to yourself? Forget about it!

With salons and spas being closed and spare money being a rarity, taking care of your skin and face can seem more like a chore than anything else. But we’re here to show you a few easy-to-make at-home solutions to quell your self-care woes.

With the boom in availability for cannabis products and CBD derivatives, strides in beauty and self-care products have led to huge innovations in beauty secrets. CBD comes in a few forms but is most commonly an oil that has incredible health and beauty benefits. When used in skin softeners and body scrubs, they can make a huge difference, both in the short term and the long term!

The following is a list of both face masks and body scrubs you can make from the comfort of your own bathroom, using ingredients you might already have on hand.

Disclaimer: While it’s important to be vigilant with what goes in your body, it’s equally as important to be careful what goes on to your body. Be sure to research any ingredients before putting them on your skin. If you take medications, use other face products, go out in the sun a lot, or a myriad of other things, your skin needs might be a little different. A good routine might be disrupted by an ill-performing mask, so patch tests and individual research are highly recommended!

Ingredient Options for Face Masks

Starting with the most intricate on this list, face masks offer a seemingly endless range of possibilities for ingredients and application styles. Want a frothy and thick mask that enriches the skin and promotes your inner glow? We got you. Want a peel-off recipe that helps with blemishes, dark spots, and wrinkles? We got you covered. CBD face masks are just about as diverse as it gets, which means the ways you can use them are endless.

Keep in mind though that these are formula ideas. If you are allergic to anything included in these concoctions, please feel free to leave them out! One of the many benefits of at-home spa treatments and DIY face products is that you can completely tailor them to you! Here are a few ideas for ingredients of a well-rounded recipe for a DIY CBD face mask.

CBD Oil

CBD oil is a cannabis-derived product that’s mostly found in oil form. This oil is an incredibly strong antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, which means it’s great for taking acne, relaxing the skin, and promoting healthy natural oil production.

Oatmeal

A gentle exfoliator, oatmeal provides a hypoallergenic solution to skin irritation and redness.

Turmeric

Largely used to manage blemishes and dark spots, turmeric has a ton of amazing health and beauty benefits. This wonder spice reduces redness, irritation, helps fight acne, and much much more.

Honey

A natural antibacterial and moisturizing substance, honey can be added to any face mask for a boost of softness.

Greek Yogurt

A great antibacterial, Greek yogurt or unflavored regular yogurt can provide a great source of protein to the skin. This promotes blemish control and wrinkle protection.

Avocado

High in fatty acids and amazing vitamin benefits, avocados can be added to any face mask or moisturizer for an extra little something for just about everything! Texture and dry skin can be a thing of the past with a regular avocado salve.

Aloe Vera

A soothing and relaxing salve, aloe provides a green slime-type texture that reduces redness and promotes inner healing. It can help with scars and burns as well!

Raspberries and Blueberries

Extremely high in antioxidants, these berries offer anti-aging properties and promote your skin’s inner glow from the inside out!

Now that we’ve covered just a handful of options there are for face mask mixing, we’ve compiled a few amazing recipes we love. CBD oil is included in all of them, so before you put anything on your face, a patch test is recommended!

Toning CBD Mask

What you’ll need:

1 tablespoon of plain Greek Yogurt

1 teaspoon of Turmeric

½ teaspoon of CBD oil of choice

½ teaspoon of Honey

In a small mixing or cereal bowl, combine ingredients evenly into a paste. Turmeric is a bright yellow powder, so your paste should be a pastel yellow goop. Once combined, apply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with a cold washcloth and pat dry. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer and look fabulous!

CBD Hydration Mask

What you’ll need:

3 tablespoons of Oatmeal

½ teaspoons of CBD Oil of choice

½ teaspoons of Honey

½ of a Mashed Avocado

(Optional: 1 tablespoon of plain Greek Yogurt)

In a small mixing bowl, combine the mashed avocado and oatmeal together until a chunky paste. Once semi-smooth with no large chunks of avocado, add honey, CBD oil, and yogurt if desired. Mix into a smooth paste and apply to the face. Leave for 10-15 minutes and remove with warm water, pat dry.

Follow up with a hydrating moisturizer.

(Optional: Grind the oatmeal into a fine powder prior to adding it to your mashed avocado. The paste can also be covered and refrigerated to use cold, which gives a refreshing boost of cool to your skin)

CBD Face Mask for Irritated Skin

What you’ll need:

1 teaspoon of Honey

1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera Gel

1 teaspoon of CBD oil of choice

¼ of a Mashed Avocado

(Optional: 1 tablespoon of plain Green Yogurt)

In a small mixing bowl, combine ingredients to a fine and smooth paste. Place in the fridge until cool to the touch, then apply to the skin. Leave for 10-15 minutes. Remove with warm water and pat dry. Apply moisturizer to finish.

These are just a few of the combinations that can come from face mask DIYs. Tinkering around with the ingredients and finding a recipe that really speaks to you is going to be the best way to customize your CBD face mask experience, but hopefully, this kind of gets those gears turning!

DIY CBD Body Scrubs

DIY CBD Body Scrubs

Similar to options for CBD face masks, CBD body scrubs are equally diverse! Between basic exfoliants to close to luxury lather scrubs, CBD does it all.

We’ve come up with a list of ingredients and example recipes for you to pick through, and remember, all ingredients can be changed out at any time to cater to your preferences.

All these scrubs are meant for exfoliation and should not be used daily. It’s important for your skin to be able to take a break from exfoliation to protect you from outside toxins and threats. The general consensus for a healthy exfoliating routine is two to three times a week. Overdoing it can cause irritation and redness in places that are sensitive. Preemptive planning for using these scrubs can promote shelf time, functionality in the shower, and the best possible outcome for your skin!

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil provides a great way to combine all ingredients in one paste since room temperature coconut oil is semisolid. Coconut oil has incredible moisturizing effects that the skin really benefits from.

CBD Oil

An incredible source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, CBD oil provides a skin-soothing effect to anything it’s put in.

Essential Oils (Peppermint, Lavender, Rose, etc)

Essential oils often carry the benefits and properties of the plants they’re derived from. Along with carrying incredible scents, lavender promotes tranquility and relaxation, peppermint essential oil lends itself to invigoration, and rose promotes skin health and moisture.

Sugar

A gentle exfoliant, sugar dissolves in water. Sugar provides a great and uniform means of removing dead skin while cleaning itself up afterward.

Charcoal

With skin purifying properties, charcoal offers a great way to rid the skin of toxins and debris. It also looks pretty cool.

Coffee

An exfoliator with energizing effects, coffee is a great addition to any good body scrub.

Honey

Honey is a natural antibacterial and skin softening product with a huge shelf life and mass potential for skincare routines worldwide.

Oats

A gentle exfoliator that provides a soothing effect to redness and irritation.
